Jacques Herbin · 2026 Special Editions

Two new inks. Two very different inspirations.

For 2026, Jacques Herbin introduces two Special Edition inks inspired by the colours and character of remarkable landscapes: the warm, mineral tones of Terre du Maroc and the luminous northern skies of Aurore de Laponie.

Each belongs to one of the Maison’s historic anniversary collections—1670 and 1798—bringing its own interpretation of colour, light and place.

Jacques Herbin Aurore de Laponie 1798 Special Edition Ink 2026

Aurore de Laponie

Inspired by the luminous skies of Lapland, Jacques Herbin Aurore de Laponie captures the extraordinary green of the aurora in a rich, expressive writing ink.

Its blue-green colour moves from brighter turquoise tones in lighter strokes to deeper emerald and forest green where the ink gathers. Fine silver shimmer catches the light across the page, echoing the shifting brilliance of the northern lights without overwhelming the colour beneath.

Created as part of Jacques Herbin’s historic 1798 Collection, Aurore de Laponie brings together colour, light and movement in an ink that can appear remarkably different as it travels across the page.

When Oxygen Becomes Light

High above the landscapes of Lapland, something extraordinary happens. Charged particles from the Sun travel toward Earth, where our planet’s magnetic field guides some of them into the upper atmosphere. There, they collide with gases—including oxygen.

Those collisions transfer energy to oxygen atoms. As the atoms release that energy, it becomes visible as light. At the altitudes where many auroras occur, oxygen produces the brilliant green that has come to define the northern lights.

There is something remarkable about that transformation. Oxygen, an element so closely connected with life on Earth, becomes part of an entirely different phenomenon high above it—one where energy, atmosphere and light come together to create colour across a darkened sky.

Unlike the pigments drawn from earth, this is a colour that cannot be gathered, ground or mixed. It exists for a moment, constantly changing with the conditions that create it.

Some colours can only be witnessed. This one, you can write with.

The Colour of Aurore de Laponie

Aurore de Laponie is a green that refuses to stay in one place. In lighter strokes, it reveals a brighter turquoise-teal; where the ink gathers, the colour deepens into richer emerald tones. Fine silver shimmer moves through it all, catching the light much like the aurora that inspired its name.

What makes the colour particularly compelling is its balance. It is vivid without feeling overly bright, expressive without becoming difficult to use. The cooler blue-green undertones give it freshness, while the deeper areas add enough richness to make handwriting feel substantial.

And then there is the silver. Rather than changing the colour itself, the metallic shimmer adds another experience—one that appears as the page moves and the light finds it.

A colour inspired by something fleeting, made for words you may want to keep.
