It begins with an idea.
Sometimes an idea begins here—with a question, a sketch, a material, a colour, or the thought that something could be done differently.
Other times, it begins with recognizing a good idea when I see one.
At RKR, design is considered through the way something looks, feels, functions and becomes part of everyday life. Whether developed from the beginning or carefully selected from an existing design, what carries the RKR name must earn its place.
RKR is a design studio shaped by curiosity, experimentation and a belief in thoughtful design.
I explore materials, colour, form and function, developing some ideas from the beginning and recognizing others that already reflect what I value.
Not every idea will become an RKR product. Those that do share something in common: they bring thoughtful design and purpose to the ordinary moments of everyday life.

Being an artist has taught me to pay attention.
I notice line, colour and proportion. The relationship between materials. The rhythm of a pattern. The texture of a surface. The way a small detail can change how something feels—or how naturally it works.
That way of seeing has become part of RKR. It influences the products I develop, but also the ones I choose to put the RKR name on. Beauty matters, but never on its own. Function matters too. So does the experience of using something again and again.
Because good design isn’t simply something to admire. It should make everyday life a little better.
What earns the RKR name.
Whether I begin with an idea of my own or discover an existing design that catches my attention, the process eventually comes down to the same question: is this something I would choose to live with myself?
I look at how it is made and how it feels to use. I consider the materials, proportions and details, but also whether those choices serve a purpose. Does it solve a real problem? Will it work well beyond the first impression? Is there something about its design that makes the everyday experience of using it better?
I don’t believe everything needs to be extraordinary. Sometimes good design is simply an ordinary object that has been considered unusually well.
Those are the products I want to put the RKR name on.
The first RKR choice.
The first product to carry the RKR name wasn’t something I set out to design. It was something I discovered.
What caught my attention was how many everyday frustrations had been considered in one deceptively simple object. Its rectangular shape made sense for the things we actually carry. The organization was thoughtful. The materials practical. Even the different ways it could be carried seemed to recognize that our days rarely involve just one destination.
I found myself looking at it the way I look at any good design—noticing one considered decision after another.
It had already answered many of the questions I would have asked myself.
And that made the RKR Commuter Backpack the first product I chose to put my name on.
