The Diplomat Aero Pure Black takes the unmistakable form of the Aero and gives it a distinctly monochromatic interpretation. Crafted from anodized aluminium, its smooth matte-black body has a soft, almost silky feel in the hand, with subtle satin reflections revealing the sculptural shape of the pen as the light moves across its surface.

Rather than relying on bright contrast, Pure Black introduces understated tonal variation through its matte gunmetal details. The clip, finial, grip and barrel end sit quietly against the black body, while the familiar Diplomat Ink Flower remains on the finial. Even the usual Diplomat branding at the edge of the cap has been removed, allowing the uninterrupted form to take precedence.

The Aero’s signature soft sliding click cap remains, closing securely and posting onto the barrel when writing. Its matte gunmetal grip provides a comfortable, secure hold, with the small lip at its end helping to keep the fingers naturally positioned during longer writing sessions.

On the fountain pen, Diplomat’s #6 JoWo stainless steel nib receives a black PVD finish that carries the Pure Black aesthetic through to the writing point itself. The pen fills using standard international cartridges or a converter, with both included. For those who prefer the immediacy of a rollerball, the Pure Black is also available in rollerball form, retaining the same materials, proportions and understated design.

The presentation has been reconsidered as well. Pure Black arrives in a matte-black anodized aluminium presentation box, its glossy black Diplomat branding creating contrast through finish rather than colour—a final detail entirely in keeping with the pen itself.
