Jacques Herbin · 2026 Special Editions

Two new inks. Two very different inspirations.

For 2026, Jacques Herbin introduces two Special Edition inks inspired by the colours and character of remarkable landscapes: the warm, mineral tones of Terre du Maroc and the luminous northern skies of Aurore de Laponie.

Each belongs to one of the Maison’s historic anniversary collections—1670 and 1798—bringing its own interpretation of colour, light and place.

Jacques Herbin Terre du Maroc 1670 Special Edition Ink 2026

Terre du Maroc

Inspired by the warm landscapes of Morocco, Terre du Maroc is a rich earth-toned fountain pen ink accented with fine gold shimmer. Deep browns, sun-baked ochres and subtle metallic highlights come together to create a colour that feels both grounded and expressive.

Part of Jacques Herbin’s celebrated Les Encres 1670 collection, Terre du Maroc invites comparisons to the natural pigments that have inspired artists, craftsmen and writers for centuries. The result is an ink that feels equally at home in a journal, a sketchbook or a handwritten letter.

As the ink pools on the page, the gold shimmer emerges from within the warm brown base, creating a writing experience that is both sophisticated and quietly dramatic.

Before Colour Came in a Bottle

Earth was dug from the ground. Ochres and other mineral pigments were crushed and ground into fine powders.
These materials could then be mixed with liquids and binding agents, transformed through experimentation into colours that could be painted, drawn or written with.

The process was part knowledge, part patience. Pigments behaved differently. Proportions mattered. A mixture could be too pale, too red, too coarse—or simply not what its maker had imagined. Recipes were recorded, adjusted and tried again.

Over time, chemistry transformed the possibilities of colour. Natural pigments were joined by increasingly sophisticated manufactured ones, allowing greater consistency, permanence and an extraordinary range of hues.

Yet something of that earliest relationship remains.

We still describe colours as ochre, umber, sienna, mineral, earth and gold—words that remind us that long before colour was selected from a screen or opened from a bottle, it was something we discovered in the world around us.

Terre du Maroc brings that idea forward into 2026: an ink whose colour asks us to look back at the earth.

The Colour of Terre du Maroc

Terre du Maroc is an earthy, complex brown that refuses to remain just one colour. In heavier areas, it settles into deep, warm brown; where the ink thins, ochre and golden tones begin to emerge. Fine gold shimmer catches the light across the surface, adding another dimension without losing the grounded character of the colour.

On the page, that variation is what makes Terre du Maroc particularly interesting. It has the warmth and practicality of a brown ink, but with enough movement, shading and shimmer to make handwriting feel distinctly different from an everyday brown.

It is a colour that could feel equally at home in a journal, a personal letter or a page of thoughtful notes—earthy enough to use, unusual enough to notice.
